Heskey ends Latics exit talk

Wigan Athletic striker Emile Heskey has attempted to end speculation surrounding his future by insisting he remains completely happy at the JJB Stadium.

The 30-year-old forward was strongly linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur before the transfer window slammed shut last month.

Heskey's form for the Latics following his £5.5million arrival from Birmingham City two years ago had led to an England recall under Fabio Capello, but the former Leicester City and Liverpool hitman is adamant that he is not looking to move on.

"There's been speculation about my future," he told the Wigan Evening Post.

"Chris Kirkland sent me about 200 texts the other week when I was away with England asking if there was any truth I was leaving.

"I just told him, 'I'm with England, I'm going nowhere', that's all there was to it.

"The manager and chairman both spoke to me last month about the situation.

"When I spoke with the chairman he said he'd had offers for me but, until I went to him and told him I wanted to leave, he wouldn't entertain anything.

"I had no intention of doing that and that's where we left things. I'm happy here and you get the best out of yourself when you are happy.

"These are good times to be at Wigan. We are moving forward - the chairman and manager have both stipulated we must move forward.

"Dave Whelan has put his money where his mouth is and really backed the manager and now I think we are starting to reap the benefits."
