New Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez is on the verge of completing his first signing after agreeing a deal to land Jordi Gomez.
The Espanyol midfielder spent last season on loan at Swansea City - Martinez's former club - and is now set to follow his compatriot to the Premier League.
Reports claim Martinez has finalised a £1.8million deal with the La Liga club to sign the 24-year-old playmaker and terms on a four-year contract have also been agreed.
Gomez scored 14 goals in 51 appearances last season and was named in the Championship team of the year.
Speaking after being unveiled in the JJB Stadium hot-seat earlier in the week, Martinez stressed the importance of making some swift signings.
"We have to act really quick now because Wigan have lost a lot of players, including those in the winter transfer window," he said.
"We are a little bit short on numbers, but the rest of the squad really excites me.
"There is a lot of talent there, many internationals and there is a core of players that can excite the town.
"We just need to bring in some more players to help compete in the Premier League."
