FA charge outspoken Martinez
08 Apr 2010 - 10:46:16
Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez has been handed an FA charge of improper conduct for his comments about referee Stuart Attwell following his side's 3-0 defeat at Manchester City.
The Latics were eventually well beaten at Eastlands at the end of March, with the game's decisive moment coming with the score goalless when Gary Caldwell shown a straight red card for a tackle on Carlos Tevez.
Martinez was angry that referee Attwell told him that Caldwell was sent off for a two-footed challenge, although the defender did not appear to launch himself at Tevez.
He said straight after the game: "We are all human beings and we all make mistakes, but to give a decision after something you don't see, that is lying.
"You are making it up. That is hard to take.
"He said he saw Gary Caldwell with both feet off the ground, that's why he gave the red card, but Gary Caldwell only went with one foot. That's a real injustice.
"Moments like this are very, very hard to take."
