De Ridder targets Latics start

Wigan Athletic summer signing Daniel de Ridder has his sights set on a starting spot with the Latics, having had to play a waiting game so far this season.

The 24-year-old Dutchman's only start came in the Carling Cup win over Notts County and de Ridder wants to win a place in Steve Bruce's starting eleven.

He told the Manchester Evening News: "I have settled in very well, I like the club and the people and I hope to take my chances when I get them.

"The manager knows all about me and what I have to offer and I know when opportunities come my way, I have to take them.

"I'm sure this will prove a good move for me, I just want to be out there on the field doing what I do best."

Meanwhile, Latics chairman Dave Whelan has admitted that his club would consider selling star striker Emile Heskey if a major offer came in in the January transfer window.

He told The People: "We don't want Emile to go, but football is football.

"If somebody pays enough money and Emile wants to go, we would never try to keep a player.

"We don't want him to leave and he's happy here, but if anything develops Emile will have the final say."
