Coyle confirms likely Kone exit

New Latics boss Owen Coyle has confirmed that Arouna Kone is set to leave the club over the next few days.

The 29 year old Ivorian international has made no secret of his desire to leave the Latics following the clubs relegation from the Premier League.

“There’s no point being evasive - we expect Arouna Kone will go, sooner rather than later,” Coyle told the Wigan Evening Post.

“The clause we all know he has in his contract is close to being triggered, and he has indicated he would like to leave.

“The whole world knows about his contract situation - his representative has made everyone aware of that.

“Probably the only ones who didn’t have to be made aware of that are Everton, because obviously Roberto and his staff were party when the clause went into the contract.

“The agent has indicated to us that Arouna has chosen his preferred destination, which is Everton.

“That will happen as long as Everton get to the required clause - it’s as simple as that.”

The goods news for the Latics is that Kone's departure, for a fee believed to be in the region of £5 million represents a significant profit on the £2.7 million paid to Sevilla for the striker a little over a year ago.

One, if not two strikers are expected to join the Latics following the departure of Franco di Santo, and the now imminent departure of Arouna Kone.

A host of names are being linked with incoming moves to strengthen the Latics forward department with Norwich City's Grant Holt top of Coyle's target list.
