Chimbonda fee agreed

Wigan Athletic full-back Pascal Chimbonda is close to securing a move to Tottenham Hotspur after the two clubs finally agreed a fee for the Frenchman.

The 27-year-old has had his heart set on a move to Spurs since handing in a transfer request on the final day of last season, but the Latics knocked back a series of bids from the Londoners.

However, a substantially improved offer on Thursday prompted Wigan officials to give Chimbonda permission to discuss personal terms with Tottenham.

Wigan have not revealed what the price for Chimbonda is, but have confirmed the fee will be the biggest they have ever received for a player.

The Latics' previous record sale was Nathan Ellington's move to West Brom for £3,000,001.
