Burnley 1 Wigan 3: Rodallega is double trouble for the Clarets

Burnley goalkeeper Brian ‘The Beast’ Jensen looked far from macho as his side lost their 100 per cent home record. Jensen collapsed to the floor in apparent agony as he came to gather a harmless crossfield pass and gifted Wigan striker Hugo Rodallega an equaliser that set his team on the way. The diagnosis afterwards was a twisted ankle and manager Owen Coyle admitted: ‘It was a truly bizarre equaliser. You can prepare all week for matches but you cannot prepare for something like that. ‘There was no danger as Brian came to collect the ball. Then he twisted his ankle and suddenly the boy is free to score. It was a gift, although perhaps Jensen had an excuse.’ The chief beneficiary was £4.5million Colombian striker Rodallega, who followed up his tap-in with a stunning strike after 51 minutes to put Wigan ahead for the first time. Rodallega is Wigan’s lucky charm having scored in all their four victories this season. And having netted eight times in 15 games, he is one of the most underrated strikers in the Premier League. ‘His asset is his finishing,’ said Wigan manager Roberto Martinez. ‘He scored on the opening day against Aston Villa and has been full of confidence ever since.’ Burnley had won all four of their previous games at Turf Moor this season and it seemed business as usual when £4m record signing Steven Fletcher converted Robbie Blake’s cross after four minutes, no doubt impressing the watching Scotland manager George Burley.
