Bruce urges Latics focus

Steve Bruce has told his Wigan players not to become distracted by the pending visit of Manchester United next Wednesday. There is a possibility the Red Devils will be able to retain their Premier League crown when they come to the JJB Stadium but Bruce is more concerned about Saturday's clash with West Brom. The Latics have been in disappointing form for much of the second half of the season and Bruce is keen for his men to return to winning ways. "We've only won two out of the last 14 games and we always knew our fixtures at the back end of the season would be difficult," said Bruce. "We need to make sure we can finish the season off, we have three games in a week with Manchester United coming on Wednesday so let's hope we can have a decent end to the season. "I hope they (United) don't have to come to our place to win the league again, that's for sure. "They've done that once and that was enough - we don't want to see that again, although it wouldn't surprise me." Big occasion Bruce, a former United player, admits it is the game against Sir Alex Ferguson's side that his players seem to be thinking about. He explained: "When Manchester United come to town it is always the big occasion for everyone, whether they are going to win the league or not. "It is always the game everyone wants to play in and be involved in and wants to see. It is always a special atmosphere. "As we saw the other night against Arsenal (in the Champions League semi-final) they are one of the best teams, if not the best team, in the world not just Europe. "Their bench the other night was jaw-dropping and the evolution of Manchester United, when you see the young players like Anderson, Michael Carrick and Darren Fletcher, it is quite incredible. "It will be some occasion - but before that we have got West Brom, who are fighting for their lives."
