Bruce hails clinical Latics
25 Sep 2008 - 09:20:04
Wigan Athletic manager Steve Bruce praised his side's clinical finishing after they coasted into the fourth of the Carling Cup following a 4-1 victory over Ipswich Town.
Second-half strikes from Lee Cattermole, Olivier Kapo, Paul Scharner and substitute Henri Camara secured the Premier League side's passage into the draw for the next round.
Ipswich though could have gone in ahead at half-time but missed a clutch of first-half chances.
"I think that is the difference between the Premier League and the Championship," said Bruce.
"When you create that many chances and you don't take them, you're going to get punished.
"We ran out easy winners in the end but it was tough in the first half because Ipswich did very well."
Meanwhile, Bruce reserved special praise for Titus Bramble after making the former Ipswich defender captain for the night on his return to Portman Road.
"It was fantastic for him to come back. He has his critics but the one thing about him is he is made of stern stuff," continued the Latics chief.
"For me he was the outstanding player. I know for a fact he was looking forward to coming down here."
