Bruce clings to Magpies hope

Wigan Athletic boss Steve Bruce still hopes to manage Newcastle United in the future. The former Manchester United defender supported the Magpies as a boy and was offered the chance to take on the St James' Park hot-seat when Sir Bobby Robson left the club in 2004. Bruce said: "The only genuine opportunity I had was after Sir Bobby left. "But I'd just signed a new deal at Birmingham City and signed five or six players that summer; I felt out of loyalty to Birmingham at the time that I couldn't go. "Do I regret it? Yes of course. "They were my club when I was a boy and I used to crawl under the turnstiles to watch them. "Will I ever manage Newcastle? I don't know. Maybe one day. You never know because football sends you down many paths."
