Bruce: No Scharner fall-out

Wigan Athletic manager Steve Bruce insists he is taking recent comments from Paul Scharner claiming the pair have fallen out with a pinch of salt.

The outspoken Austria defender was quoted last week as saying he was 'not getting on well with Steve Bruce at the moment' due to his decision to return to international football.

But Bruce had denied Scharner's claims that the pair have fallen out over his return to the Austrian fold.

"I've seen Scharner's comments coming from somewhere and I'll try and put that right. I've had no fall-out with him at all," he told the Wigan Observer.

"He goes off on tangents sometimes as players do. There's been no fall-out at all.

"I tried with the previous manager to get him in the Austria squad, because I wanted him to go and play in the European Championships.

"I tried my utmost to make that happen with Josef Hickersberger. As far as a fall-out goes, no chance.

"My job is about the team and the club and to pick what I think will get us a result."
