Bramble backed for England
16 Mar 2009 - 09:42:51
Goalkeeper Chris Kirkland has backed Wigan Athletic team-mate Titus Bramble for international honours.
Kirkland, himself a current England international, believes the form of the 27-year-old defender this season should be recognised by head coach Fabio Capello.
Bramble has been a virtual ever-present for the Latics and has largely managed to avoid making the high-profile mistakes which undermined his spell with former club Newcastle United.
"Titus is my player of the season by a mile. He has found a place where he is happy and has become a very important player for us," said Kirkland.
"I played with him for the under-21s years ago and you could see then that he was such a talented player.
"He's taken some terrible stick when he's made mistakes, but everybody makes mistakes.
"For some reason, it was blown up as if he had committed the biggest crime in the world when he slipped up.
"It's testament to him and testament to this club that he's come through it and is playing with a smile on his face.
"I've got to say he is international standard. He's worth a look by England."
