Boss happy with Latics squad

Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez was pleased to have avoided losing any key players before the transfer window slammed shut.

A number of Latics stars had been linked with moves away from the DW Stadium, but no deals materialised earlier this week.

He told the club's official website: "You always need to look to keep helping the squad that you have.

"I'm not the sort of person to just bring in players for the sake of it. Wigan Athletic doesn't work like that.

"In that respect I'm delighted with the squad I have here and now we need to work hard and achieve our potential as soon as we can.

"One of the most important things for us was to keep hold of our key players, those who have been attracting interest from elsewhere.

"We're delighted to have kept the squad largely the same and will use this period to refresh the players' minds and reflect on how the season has started."
