Boro accept Cattermole offer

Middlesbrough midfielder Lee Cattermole looks set to complete his switch to Wigan Athletic next week after the two clubs agreed an undisclosed transfer fee for the 20-year-old.

It is believed that the Teessiders have accepted an offer in the region of £3.5million for the England Under-21 international.

A Boro spokesman told the club's official website: "Boro have confirmed that they have agreed a fee with Wigan Athletic for the transfer of Lee Cattermole.

"The 20-year-old midfielder has been given permission to talk to Wigan, discuss personal terms and have a medical.

"No further news is expected until next week."

Earlier, Boro manager Gareth Southgate had said: "We have had a revised offer from Wigan. It's not a done deal, but the offer gives us something to consider.

"It's not agreed, but it's pretty close to what we're looking for. He is still our player, but something could happen in the next 24 hours."

Cattermole has scored four goals in 91 appearances for Boro to date.
