Bolton Reaction: Rosler delighted with opening period

Newly appointed Latics boss Uwe Rosler professed his delight with the opening period of the game as the players took to his new tactics perfectly.

The tough talking German likes his team's to be aggressive without the ball and offensive with. Both are key tactics that will stand the former Manchester City and Southampton striker is good stead with the Latics crowd.

To be two goals up in your first home game, a derby against Bolton, after just 25 minutes is always going to help have the fans on side.

Rosler however wasn't happy with the Bolton comeback but praised his side for coming away with the win.

"I don't like so much excitement," he said of the pulsating north-west derby.

"The team responded very well to the tactics we have set out, pressure high, pressure all over the pitch, attacking-minded football.

"The first 35 minutes was very, very good; that's the way I want to play. The players were very good in executing that on the pitch."

There was also praise for Callum McManaman who, although he tired greatly in the second half, ran rings around Alex Baptiste and looked a completely different player to the one operating under Owen Coyle.

"I was thinking of not playing him today from the start, bringing him on as an impact player. But he was so good against Maribor (on Thursday) I thought we need to build confidence with this lad.

"He is a match-winner for us; we just need to bring him on to a level where he can play 90 minutes with that intensity and that quality. We left him on and he will get a lot out of this fitness wise.

"On the ball, he's fantastic. He can destroy oppositions, he did it very effectively and to get the goal rounded up a very good performance from him."

Next up for the Latics is the trip to face Sheffield Wednesday, ironically on Wednesday evening at Hillsborough. A win would leave Rosler's side just five points off the play off places.
