Blackpool v Wigan preview
Blackpool will be hoping to catch Wigan cold when they meet in the second round of the Carling Cup. The Seasiders have drawn all four of their fixtures in the Championship this term, and will be keen to get back to winning ways, while they were pushed all the way by League Two outfit Crewe in the first round of cup competition. Wigan, meanwhile, were hammered 5-0 by Manchester United on Saturday and will be desperate to make amends for that lacklustre showing. Blackpool boss Ian Holloway is likely to make changes for the midweek cup clash. Holloway will still be without midfielder Joe Martin, who is struggling with a shoulder injury, while Daniel Nardiello (hip), Danny Coid (leg) and Steve McPhee (knee) are long-term absentees. Full-back Stephen Crainey and striker Ben Burgess (both groin) featured in Saturday's 2-2 draw at Watford after shaking off injuries and will be available again. Arsenal loanee Jay Emmanuel Thomas, who made his full debut at Vicarage Road, has not been given permission to play in the competition by the Gunners and so will miss out as a result. Holloway only has a small squad to choose from but the likes of Ishmel Demontagnac and Al Bangura will push for starts while Rob Edwards and Brett Ormerod, who were rested at the weekend, could return. Wigan goalkeeper Chris Kirkland is carrying a slight knock and may be rested for the trip to Bloomfield Road. That would mean Mike Pollitt would be most likely to deputise, although Richard Kingson would also come into contention. Manager Roberto Martinez will look to freshen up his side after Saturday's heavy defeat at home to the Red Devils. That could mean the likes of Erik Edman, Emmerson Boyce, Ben Watson, Cho Won-hee and James McCarthy may be given their first starts of the season.
