    Black delighted with Palacios

    08 Mar 2008 - 13:02:50

Wigan Athletic assistant manager Eric Black has hailed the immediate impact made by Honduran midfielder Wilson Palacios at the JJB Stadium.

The 23-year-old has settled in quickly with the Latics, having spent the first half of the season with Premier League rivals Birmingham City.

Black told the Wigan Evening Post: "Some people might be surprised the way Wilson has settled here, but we knew he could make a big impact.

"You are never guaranteed anything when a player joins a new club and Wilson only played a handful of games in the Premier League before coming here.

"But when you see him in training every day, you quickly realise what quality he has. He has a hunger to succeed, he's really comfortable on the ball and is a natural athlete.

"Those few months at Birmingham helped him find his feet in English football and get a feel for the Premier League."

Palacios has played eight times for Wigan to date, during which time the Latics have edged out of the relegation places.
