Bent set for Latics contract

16 May 2008 - 12:30:59

On-loan striker Marcus Bent is close to signing a permanent contract with Wigan Athletic.

Bent, 29, has been on loan at the JJB Stadium from Charlton Athletic all season and the two clubs have agree a fee believed to be in the region of £1million.

The former Blackburn, Ipswich and Everton striker netted eight times in 36 appearances and was the Latics' top scorer in the Premier League.

"We just need to sort the personal terms. The contract is there and I am very happy to come to Wigan," said Bent.

"This is the club I want to stay at and hopefully the manager will soon be talking to my agent and we can sort things out."

Meanwhile, veteran goalkeeper Mike Pollitt is ready to discuss terms on a new one-year contract to remain with Steve Bruce's side.

The 36-year-old made three appearances during the course of the recently completed season.

"The club want to speak to my agent so hopefully things should get sorted out soon," he told the Wigan Evening Post.

"I want to stay, I like it here, so I'll see what the offer is like and make up my mind.

"Obviously it wasn't ideal for me to sit on the bench all season but Chris Kirkland was in outstanding form, so how I could I moan?

"Of course at times I thought about maybe dropping down a division to get regular football, but the Premier League is the place to be."
