Baines to stay with Latics

Wigan Athletic manager Chris Hutchings has rejected reports suggesting Leighton Baines is looking to quit the JJB Stadium.

The England Under-21s left-back has been mentioned as a possible transfer target for a host of the Latics' Premier League rivals this summer.

However, Baines will not be heading out of the club after telling Hutchings he is keen to remain.

"Leighton has told me he is happy to stay and I am certainly not looking to sell him," Hutchings told the Manchester Evening News.

Meanwhile, Hutchings has played down speculation suggesting he is ready to revive former manager Paul Jewell's efforts to sign one-time Latics striker Nathan Ellington from West Brom.

"This was talked about this time last season but nothing came of it and it won't be happening this time," he continued.

"I'm not quite sure about bringing players back for a second spell and will not be pursuing this.

"We have a number of options open to us, but I don't want to say too much because that could alert other clubs."
