Baines talks up Latics
29 Mar 2007 - 11:57:14
Wigan Athletic defender Leighton Baines claims the Latics are determined to end their lingering relegation fears starting with a win over struggling Charlton Athletic on Saturday.
Paul Jewell's side have risen up to 16th place in the table on the back of a four-match unbeaten run and Baines believes the Latics can pull decisively away from the drop-zone in the coming weeks.
"We're focusing on just one thing now - going to Charlton and winning," he told the club's official website.
"They've hit a bit of form in their last few games so we know they're going to be full of confidence, but then the same can be said about us.
"We're unbeaten in four games and we need to put in another performance like we did at Manchester City (1-0 win), where the team was back to its dogged best and got the result our performance deserved.
"We'll approach the game positively and go for the three points.
"We know what a massive result this will be if we can win, because Charlton are one of the teams below us and it'll be as much about keeping that cushion we've got at the moment as us picking up the points.
"We can't get ahead of ourselves. We're on 33 points and another three points will push us really close to the safety mark.
"That's all that's in the team's mind now."
