Ankle op sidelines Nash
07 Nov 2007 - 14:43:00
Wigan Athletic back-up goalkeeper Carlo Nash faces up to three months out of action after being forced to undergo surgery on an ankle injury.
The 34-year-old joined the Latics on a permanent basis in the summer, having finished last season on loan at the JJB Stadium from Preston North End.
However, he will have to wait to try and force his way into the first-team, after fracturing his right ankle during training.
Latics head physio, Alan Tomlinson, told the club's official website: "Carlo was operated on expertly and extremely quickly, he will be in plaster for the next fortnight then he will wear a protective boot.
"At that point we will be able to start mobility work like walking, cycling, swimming and build up his fitness programme from there."
Caretaker boss Frank Barlow added: "It's a blow for Carlo, who is a top pro and a great person to have at the club.
"But he will get over the setback I'm sure and soon be back challenging for his place. Our medical team are very experienced and will get him back fit."
