50 rising stars to watch in the Premier League: No 6 Victor Moses
Published : 04 Oct 2010 12:12:17
Football.co.uk heads to Wigan to continue our series looking at the best young talent in the Premier League.
Name: Victor Moses
Born: 12th December 1990 (Age 19)
Club: Wigan Athletic
International Honours: England U17s (12 caps) U19s (11 caps, 1 goal) and U21s (1 cap)
Moses was born in Nigeria, but moved to England aged 11 and was soon spotted by Crystal Palace scouts - who offered him a place in their academy.
His development continued apace from there and included a prolific season in Palace's U14s. Moses scored 50 times and also helped his Whitgift school team win the Schools Cup - scoring all five of their goals in the final.
A full Palace debut followed in 2007 and Moses was offered a four-year deal at Selhurst Park on the strength of his performances.
But Wigan were so impressed by his form in the 2009-10 season they came in with a £2.5 million offer to bring Moses to the Premier League, with the deal completed on the last day of the January window this year.
A strong player with quick feet and an eye for goal, Moses has pushed his way into the first-team reckoning this season and is viewed as one of the most promising young stars in the game. He's been used mostly in midfield by Wigan, but can also play up front.
On the international stage he won the Golden Boot at the U17 European Championships and has now advanced to the U21s.
