New Wigan Athletic boss Chris Hutchings has wasted little time in stamping his mark on the Latics squad by releasing veteran defensive pair Arjan De Zeeuw and David Unsworth.
Hutchings replaced former boss Paul Jewell earlier in the week and has decided not to offer the experienced duo new contracts to remain at the JJB Stadium.
Club captain De Zeeuw made 203 appearances in two spells for the club but was sidelined for periods of the current season with a succession of knee and hamstring problems.
Meanwhile Unsworth, whose penalty last weekend kept the Latics in the Premiership following a 2-1 victory over Sheffield United, has been told he is free to leave after making ten appearances for the club.
The 33-year-old started the season at Bramall Lane but signed a short-term deal with Wigan in the January transfer window.
"Arjan has been a wonderful servant to Wigan Athletic, a true leader on and off the field and has been a major player for us in two spells here," Hutchings told the club's official website.
"He is definitely one of the best professionals I have ever worked with during my time in football and I wish him all the best in the future.
"Unsy has only been with us for a few months and he did a brilliant job for us when called upon.
"His goal against Sheffield United will live long in the memory and its significance can never be underestimated. I wish him all the best for the future."
