Wigan Athletic manager Steve Bruce has revealed that Antoine Sibierski has been ruled out for around two weeks with a calf strain.
The 34-year-old attacking midfielder picked up the problem while warming up on the sidelines during Sunday's 1-0 win over Bolton Wanderers at the JJB Stadium.
The veteran Frenchman will now miss Saturday's trip to Blackburn Rovers and the following clash with Portsmouth on March 30.
However, the loss of Sibierski has been countered by the return to contention of Marcus Bent.
Bent has missed the last two matches with a shin injury, but is hoping to feature against former club Blackburn after bagging a hat-trick in a 5-3 victory over Rovers when the side met at the JJB Stadium in December.
"Benty's been injured. He's had a shin injury and hasn't featured for the last two games," Bruce told the Wigan Observer.
"But he's been training this week and he's in the equation for Saturday.
"Sib pulled his calf warming up on the sidelines against Bolton and he'll be out for 10 days.
"I was going to bring Sibierski on alongside Emile Heskey and keep two strikers on against Bolton when Jason Koumas got sent off."
Meanwhile, Bruce has warned his players that their top-flight status is still not secure despite rising to 12th in the table with the victory over Bolton.
"We've got to keep pride in our performance. The players are giving everything they've got," he continued.
"It could all change with a couple of results so we've got to keep going.
"We're up to 12th and if we finish where we are it will be a great achievement."
