Paraguay striker Salvador Cabanas is a summer transfer target for Wigan Athletic, who will allow Antoine Sibierski to leave the JJB Stadium before the new season starts.
The 27-year-old, who currently plays for Mexican club America, has also been linked with Manchester United in recent times, while Wigan boss Steve Bruce is known to be keen to add to his striking options.
Cabanas' agent, Jose Maria Gonzalez, told the Wigan Evening Post: "There has been contact with Wigan.
"It would be a good move forward because he would love to test himself in the Premier League. Wigan are well established with a fine manager.
"We are thinking about it and we will see what develops. The Premier League is an incredibly exciting league and the world's best players are there."
Meanwhile, veteran French forward Sibierski is set to move on after just one season with the Latics.
The 33-year-old's agent, Willie McKay, told Sky Sports: "Antoine was looking for another year on top of the year he has left on his contract at Wigan, but it seems he will move on.
"Antoine has been a good servant to the club they will let him leave on a free transfer. He still believes he has three or four years left in him and there are sure to be no shortage of offers for him."
