Wigan Athletic boss Paul Jewell is considering offering a deal to Stephane Henchoz after the Switzerland centre-back joined the Latics' Danish training camp.
The former Liverpool and Blackburn Rovers star is searching for a new club after being released by Celtic and Jewell believes his experience could be a major asset in Wigan's first ever top-flight campaign.
"Stephane brings a wealth of Premiership and international experience and would be a great signing for us," he told the club's official website.
"He's training with us for the rest of this week and then hopefully something will happen when we get back home to England.
"He doesn't have to prove anything in terms of quality; all he has to prove is his fitness.
"He's been training on his own all summer, but from what I've seen so far he's kept himself in pretty good shape."
Henchoz, 30, made over 200 Premiership appearances during his seven-and-a-half seasons in English football and collected two League Cup, one FA Cup and a UEFA Cup winner's medal during his time with Liverpool.
