Wigan Athletic striker Caleb Folan has voiced his disappointment at being forced to withdraw from the Republic of Ireland squad due to an ankle injury.
The 24-year-old had won his first senior international call after impressing for the Latics since his arrival from Chesterfield in the January transfer window, but has been forced to pull out of Steve Staunton's squad.
Folan told the Evening Post: "I went over on the same ankle I hurt in training not too long ago. It doesn't feel as bad as last time. I'll strap it up and see how it is over the next few days.
"I was due to join up with the Ireland squad on Tuesday so that's disappointing. I'm gutted to miss the chance, but what can you do?
"I've been aware Ireland had been watching me for a while. Even at youth level, there was always interest there.
"It shows how things can change quickly in football. Just a couple of months ago I was still playing in League One."
