Wigan Athletic skipper Arjan De Zeeuw is hoping that the club can avoid relegation so that he can enjoy one more season in the Premiership.
The 37-year-old Dutch centre-back is out of contract in the summer, but hopes to help the Latics retain their top-flight status and in doing so, earn a new deal at the JJB Stadium.
De Zeeuw, who has struggled with a toe injury this season, commented: "Even before I picked up the injury I decided in my own mind that I fancied another season.
"But now even more so, because I fancy a season with a bit more personal enjoyment.
"I'd obviously love to stay here, but at the moment the club and myself are just thinking about staying in the Premiership.
"Then, come the end of the season, if we've succeeded, it will be a lot easier for both camps to talk to one another.
"It's definitely been a frustrating season, but a lot of the frustration I've experienced will go if we stay up. It will be a huge relief."
De Zeeuw rejoined the Latics in the summer of 2005 from Portsmouth and has made just over 200 appearances in total for his current employers.
