Zaki clears air with Bruce

Wigan strike Amr Zaki insists he has cleared the air with manager Steve Bruce and is looking forward to playing for the Latics again. Bruce publicly expressed his disappointment following the Egyptian's failure to return back on time from international duty earlier this month after complaining of a hamstring injury. The Latics boss said Zaki was not only the most "unprofessional" player he has ever worked with but that his actions were "totally unacceptable" and admitted it was the fourth time it has happened during his loan spell from El Zamalek. However, the 11-goal hitman believes he and Bruce have resolved the issue and the forward is ready to commit the rest of his season to the JJB Stadium. Apologised "I clarified many things to Bruce," Zaki told Egyptian TV station Al-Hayat. "He understood my reasons for staying in Egypt during the past week but told me I should have returned immediately to England after the Zambia match. "He wanted my hamstring injury to be assessed by Wigan medics. I apologised to him and we ended up laughing. "I may return to training after a week. I'm determined to do my best in the remaining Premier League matches." Door still open Wigan chief executive Brenda Spencer confirmed Zaki had apologised for his actions after being fined by the club. Spencer, who met with Zaki and his agent Nader Shawkey alongside Bruce, added that the 26-year-old had also said sorry to his team-mates and the coaching staff. She said: "He also wants to apologise to the supporters who have been so good to him since his arrival in England. "He said the reason for his behaviour was personal but he understands he has done wrong and will accept his punishment." Spencer is eager for Wigan to move on from the issue but has made it clear that Zaki will have to be on his best behaviour. "This whole affair has been very disappointing and the club are keen to draw a line under it," Spencer explained. "Steve has told him that the door is not closed but he has a lot to do to earn a place back in the team. That is before we discuss anything more long term."
