Youth a real plus for Martinez

James McCarthy, Victor Moses, Hugo Rodallega, Charles N'Zogbia, Marcelo Moreno and Momo Diame represent a strong spine to the Latics squad, and all are under the age of 24. Youth has been a key factor in Roberto Martinez's work as Wigan manager. He has focussed not only on signing players of quality, but also those of the right age to build something special with the Latics. That is now starting to bear fruit with the spine of the squad all aged below 24, and very few players in the squad over the age of 30. Speaking to the club's official website, Martinez said: "When you look at the average age of our squad it's a real indication of the potential we have, something many will not have seen at Wigan Athletic for a long time. "Victor Moses and James McCarthy are 19 years-old, Momo Diame and Charles N'Zogbia are 23, Hugo Rodallega 24 and Marcelo Moreno 22."That's an exciting amount of talent and we need to make sure we give them the right development at this club, and carry on re-producing the kinds of performances we saw at the weekend [against Arsenal]."
