Wigan's Egyptian pair Mido and Amr Zaki have World Cup falling out

Mido alleges that stories surfacing as to how he reacted angrily to being left on the bench for last weekend's World Cup qualifier against Zambia were started by Zaki. 'I was shocked to learn that one of my team-mates was responsible for spreading the false rumour – Zaki and his agent came up with that baseless story,' said Mido. 'I am asking coach (Hassan) Shehata to clear my name.' Zaki has struggled to maintain the form at Wigan that saw him score 11 times before the turn of the year, after he joined the club on loan from El Zamalek last summer. And since the arrival of Mido, also on loan, from Middlesbrough, it is the former Tottenham striker who has seen more game time. 'I just want to tell him that success in Europe is not realised by playing well for a few months and scoring some goals,' said Mido. 'I have been in Europe for several years now and I have scored about 70 goals at the highest levels.' Zaki has denied the allegations but Bruce faces an additional, unwanted obstacle in securing both a Uefa Cup place and the permanent signatures of one or both of the Egyptian forwards.
