McCann doubt for Latics

Chris McCann is a doubt for Wigan's clash with Sheffield Wednesday as the FA Cup holders bid to return to the Sky Bet Championship play-off places.

McCann was deployed as a central defender in the shock 2-1 win at Manchester City on Sunday but had to come off after taking a bang to the leg in a robust tackle with Micah Richards.

Latics boss Uwe Rosler made the surprise decision to recall goalkeeper Scott Carson, back for the first time since December following a thigh injury, at the Etihad Stadium and faces a selection poser with Ali Al Habsi having performed brilliantly since returning to fitness around Christmas.

Rosler's numbers will be swelled with Rob Kiernan, Ryan Tunnicliffe and Martyn Waghorn back after being cup-tied while Gary Caldwell (calf), Shaun Maloney (hip) and Nick Powell (hamstring) are training again, although this game may come too soon for them.

Sheffield Wednesday will be without Sam Hutchinson for the game.

The on-loan Chelsea utility man was sent off towards the end of Saturday's 2-0 defeat at Yeovil and serves a one-match ban.

Boss Stuart Gray could welcome back first-choice goalkeeper Chris Kirkland after he missed out at Huish Park with a calf problem.

Defender Lewis Buxton may also start after shaking off a groin injury to make the bench at the weekend but Joe Mattock (thigh), Kieran Lee (hamstring), Jose Semedo (fractured fibula), Reda Johnson (hip), Martin Taylor (knee) and Kamil Zayatte (ankle) remain sidelined.
