Reece Wabara set to make Wigan debut against Chesterfield

Reece Wabara comes into Wigan's squad for the visit of Chesterfield to the DW Stadium.

The ex-Manchester City trainee signed a deal until the end of the season this week and will provide competition for the right wing-back position that has been filled by Donervon Daniels and Andy Kellett in recent weeks.

Wabara arrives after former loanee Donald Love returned to Manchester United, while Kevin McNaughton (knee) is still making his way back to full fitness.

The Latics threw away a three-goal lead to draw with Sheffield United in midweek, and Gary Caldwell could make changes, with Yanic Wildschut and Reece James among those who will be considered.

Wigan-born Chesterfield boss Danny Wilson will be without the suspended Gboly Ariyibi after his red card during the win against Rochdale.

Wilson, unbeaten in three games since succeeding Dean Saunders last month, is likely to replace Ariyibi on the wing with either Dan Gardner or Rai Simons.

That might be the only change to the team that started at Spotland last weekend, although the likes of Byron Harrison, Ollie Banks, Mani Dieseruvwe and Drew Talbot, who is expected to return to the squad after a bout of food poisoning, are all options for Wilson.

Striker Armand Gnanduillet is back from his loan at Stevenage but the best he can hope for is a place on the bench. Defender Ian Evatt (Achilles) is still at least two weeks away from being fit.
