McClean set to return

James McClean is expected to come back into the reckoning when Wigan host Brighton in the Sky Bet Championship.

Boss Owen Coyle was forced to deny claims Derry-born McClean had missed the 1-0 win at Yeovil because he refused to wear a poppy embroidered on his shirt, instead insisting he had a dead leg. McClean featured for Ireland five days later, though, and was voted man of the match in Martin O'Neill's first game in charge against Latvia.

Lee Nicholls, who has kept three clean sheets in his last four Championship outings, is expected to continue in goal although Scott Carson (ankle) is nearing a return. On-loan defender Ryan Shotton has recovered from illness while Jean Beausejour (foot) featured for Chile against England last Friday.

Centre-back Ivan Ramis (knee) has played in three behind-closed-doors friendlies and is close to a comeback but club captain Gary Caldwell, goalkeeper Ali Al-Habsi and winger Shaun Maloney (all hip) remain out.

Brighton's injury list is finally clearing up.

Winger Will Buckley (hamstring) and midfielders Keith Andrews (calf) and Andrea Orlandi (knee) could be involved in the squad along with Kemy Agustien, who returned on the bench against Blackburn before the international break.

And boss Oscar Garcia also hopes to welcome back striker Leonardo Ulloa (foot) and winger Kazenga LuaLua (knee) in the near future.

That leaves forwards Craig Mackail-Smith (Achilles) and Will Hoskins (knee) as the only long-term absentees.
