Holt close to return

Grant Holt has an outside chance of returning to the Wigan side for Sunday's Championship derby against Blackburn at the DW Stadium.

The summer signing from Norwich has not played since August after suffering a knee injury.

If Holt does not recover in time, Manchester loanee Nick Powell is likely to continue up front after scoring twice in Thursday night's 3-1 victory over Maribor - Wigan's first ever European win.

Gary Caldwell (hip), Ivan Ramis (knee), Ali Al Habsi (shoulder), Shaun Maloney (back), Stephen Crainey (neck) and Marc-Antoine Fortune (hamstring) are all sidelined.

Blackburn boss Gary Bowyer is expected to select his starting line-up from an unchanged squad.

Bowyer has no new injury or suspension problems following the midweek win over Watford and is unlikely to make too many changes.

Winger Ben Marshall and midfielder Alan Judge returned to the bench in midweek and are both pushing for recalls, but midfielder David Dunn (knee), plus strikers DJ Campbell (ankle) and Ruben Rochina (shoulder) remain sidelined.

Leading goalscorer Jordan Rhodes is expected to partner Leon Best up front as Rovers chase a third straight league win.
