Nick Powell set for Wigan sub role against Barnsley despite weekend winner

Wigan midfielder Nick Powell is set to be used as an impact substitute again for the visit of Barnsley.

The 23-year-old is lacking match fitness after three months out with a hamstring problem but scored a vital added-time winner against Rotherham at the weekend on his recall to the squad.

On-loan Stoke goalkeeper Jakob Haugaard is set to keep his place after replacing established number one Matt Gilks on Saturday.

Vice-captain Jake Buxton will be hoping to regain his place after being dropped for the first time this season but strikers Omar Bogle (thigh) and Will Grigg (knee) are unlikely to play again this season with Andy Kellett, Donervon Daniels and Ryan Tunnicliffe long-term absentees.

Barnsley will be without Adam Hammill and Andy Yiadom, who could both be out for the rest of the season.

Winger Hammill sustained a toe injury in last week's goalless home draw against Cardiff and defender Yiadom has had shoulder surgery.

Several unnamed players are hoping to shake off knocks in time, while Aidy White (pelvis) and Sessi D'Almeida (knee) remain sidelined.

The Reds, 13th in the table, are bidding for back-to-back league wins for the first time since January.
