McArthur worry for Wigan

Wigan may be without James McArthur again when Barnsley visit the DW Stadium.

The midfielder has picked up a virus and did not travel to south Wales when Latics booked their last-eight FA Cup berth by beating Cardiff, and boss Uwe Rosler said McArthur was doubtful again for the clash with the Reds on Tuesday night.

Rosler's attacking options will be boosted, though, with Nicky Maynard, ineligible against his parent club at the weekend, and Martyn Waghorn both back in contention, although Nick Powell's hamstring strain could keep him out once more.

Rob Kiernan will come into Rosler's thinking having been cup-tied, like Waghorn, in the Welsh capital while fellow defender Markus Holgersson is available for his debut. Club captain Gary Caldwell (Achilles) and Scotland international winger Shaun Maloney (shoulder) remain long-term absentees.

Barnsley midfielder Brek Shea hopes to shake off the effects of illness in time to be included in the squad.

The USA international, on loan from Stoke, missed Saturday's 2-2 draw at Doncaster due to a sickness bug, while boss Danny Wilson has no new injury or suspension problems and could name an unchanged starting line-up.

Midfielder Jacob Mellis sits out the final game of a three-match ban and defender Bobby Hassell is still out due to a calf injury.

Defender Lewin Nyatanga and midfield trio Stephen Dawson, Tomasz Cywka and Liam Lawrence are pushing for recalls as the Reds chase their first win in five league games.
