Wigan Athletic target Waldo Ponce admits he is keen to prove himself in European football.[LNB]Wigan target: Waldo Ponce[LNB]The versatile defender is available from Velez Sarsfield for a bargain £300,000 as his contract with the Argentine side is running down.[LNB]The 27-year-old Chile international is keen to secure first-team football in the run-up to the World Cup after playing in about half of Velez's games this year.[LNB]'Maybe it's time to leave Velez,' said Ponce. 'I have a score to settle, which is to play in Europe. I just turned 27 and maybe it's time to settle this debt.'[LNB]Ponce is disappointed that a six-month loan to Wolfsburg five years ago yielded just five Bundesliga appearances before he returned to South America.[LNB]'The Velez directors have held talks about renewing my contract but there are several issues to be sorted out,' he said.[LNB]'The World Cup is coming and I need to get into a rhythm of playing that I'm not getting here.[LNB]'Offers? There have been calls from England, but nothing concrete.
