Wigan bid for Scotland

Wigan manager Roberto Martinez has returned to former club Swansea to make a bid for striker Jason Scotland. Martinez has been linked with the 30-year-old Trinidad and Tobago international ever since he took over from Steve Bruce last month. Premier League newcomers Burnley have already had a £1million bid for the player, who scored 24 goals in the Coca-Cola Championship last season, rejected. It is likely Swansea will hold out for much more, especially after the stance they took over compensation for Martinez's backroom staff when he made his move to the Premier League club. Scotland did not travel with the Swansea squad to Portugal on Monday, although chairman Huw Jenkins insisted that it was merely due to a groin injury.
