With games running out, the pressure is on Burnley to improve their away record if they are to avoid relegation, starting with Saturday's clash at inconsistent Wigan Athletic. The Clarets have lost all but one of their league games away from Turf Moor - 3-3 at Manchester City - but their previously imperious home form has disappeared and successive defeats to relegation rivals Portsmouth and Wolves have left Brian Laws' side three points away from safety with only eight games of the season remaining. The departure of Owen Coyle in January appears to have hit the club hard with the team taking just four points out of a possible 30 under Laws' stewardship. Burnley have now won only one of their last 19 matches and, with a tough set of fixtures to come, look odds-on favourites to be playing Championship football again next term. However, earlier in the week the club were forced to deny reports that they were preparing to sack Laws just 10 games into his managerial reign. Former Coventry City and Celtic defender Danny Fox is expected to feature against the Latics after it was confirmed that he did not, as was initially thought, suffer a suspected broken rib against Wolves. However, Stephen Caldwell (groin) and Chris McCann (cruciate knee ligaments) are both expected to miss out. Wigan's whole season was encapsulated in the second week of March when they secured an impressive 1-0 triumph against Liverpool before plummeting to the depths five days later in a grim 4-0 loss at Bolton Wanderers. The Reebok Stadium debacle left Roberto Martinez's side only four points clear of the bottom three and made this weekend's game another must-win encounter. Pressure has increased following their 2-1 home defeat at the hands of Aston Villa on Monday night. They have conceded almost two goals a game and look set to be without Mario Mechiot (hip) and James McCarthy (ankle) on Saturday. The Latics will be keen to complete a welcome double after winning 3-1 at Burnley in October when Hugo Rodagella grabbed a brace and Emmerson Boyce was also on the scoresheet after Steven Fletcher had given the Clarets an early lead.
