Whelan: We`re heading in right direction

Wigan chairman Dave Whelan is pleased with the football being played by the team this season and is even happier that results are picking up. The Latics secured their first home win of the season against 10-man Wolves. And having had to watch the more pragmatic styles of Paul Jewell and Steve Bruce, Whelan, who has invested in a number of new players, is enjoying current manager Roberto Martinez's second season in charge. "We have got some really top-quality players and we try to play football from back to front," said the chairman. "We have plenty of pace in the side, and nobody likes playing pace - as I know from my playing days. Hopefully we can keep on progressing and head in the right direction. "The three points on Saturday will make all the difference to the confidence levels in the squad. You can feel that in the camp."
