Whelan: Latics won't throw cash around

Chairman Dave Whelan expects some players to leave Wigan in the summer, and insists Latics won't be "stupid" with their money.[LNB] Martinez has endured a mixed debut season as Wigan manager as the club survived a brush with relegation from the Premier League.[LNB]Though the Latics enjoyed famous home wins over Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal, their inconsistent form kept their top-flight status in doubt up until last weekend.[LNB]With Wigan now able to focus on another year of Premier League football, Whelan is keen to sit down with Martinez and discuss plans for next season.[LNB]However, Whelan is wary of spending beyond the club's means and confirmed there will be departures from Wigan in the summer.[LNB]"I will be sitting down with Roberto Martinez very soon to discuss budgets," said Whelan in the Daily Mail.[LNB]"Some players will be staying, some will be going.[LNB]"But one thing we won't do is go the way of Portsmouth and Hull, and just throw money around. We won't be stupid about it."
