Chairman Dave Whelan has revealed that he would have walked away from Wigan had the fans managed to hound Roberto Martinez out of the club.[LNB] Martinez found himself under pressure after Wigan lost their first two Premier League games of the season and conceded 10 goals in the process.[LNB]However, Whelan gave Martinez his backing and the Spaniard eased the pressure on him by guiding his side to a shock win at Tottenham last weekend.[LNB]Whelan is a big fan of Martinez and he claims if fans had forced the manager out he would also have quit the club.[LNB]He said: "I rate Roberto highly and said to the fans, 'if you want his head, you'll get mine as well'.[LNB]"Had they (the supporters) insisted, and even if we would have lost at Tottenham and they start crying for his head and had he asked to go, I would definitely have resigned with him."
