Whelan backing for Martinez

Despite the club being bottom of the Premier league, Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan has offered his support to manager Roberto Martinez. The Latics boss has been under fire from some sections of the support with the club languishing at the bottom of the table. However the majority of the club's loyal fan base are behind the Spaniard who is clearly building a future for the club, rather than hopping from one survival to the next. The league position may not be as planned at the moment, but the performances are certainly of a standard above that with lady luck deserting the club in recent weeks. Speaking about his manager, Dave Whelan told the Wigan Evening Post: “I have complete and total faith in Roberto – and the stability of the club remains total. “I have complete confidence that he will turn it round. I couldn’t criticise Roberto at all for the way we’re playing or the application of the lads just now. “We’ve got some very, very winnable matches coming up and we have to go out there and make sure we win them. I still think we can do it.” The Latics have a free weekend this week before the visit of Birmingham the following weekend. CLICK HERE FOR THE MESSAGEBOARD
