Whelan: All quiet on the Western front

Dave Whelan has reported that 'it is all quiet on the Western front' with regards to player transfers.

Latics boss Roberto Martinez has expressed his desire to add upto four players to his present squad before the start of the Euro 2012 competition.

We have now come out the other side of the international competition and the Latics haven't yet made a move in the transfer market.

Already down five players (Momo Diame, Chris Kirkland, Hugo Rodallega, Hendry Thomas, and Steve Gohouri have all departed) pressure is on the Latics boss to bring in new faces.

However Chairman Dave Whelan has revealed that there is nothing in the immediate pipeline as the footballing world has a brief pause following the completion of Euro 2012.

Speaking to the Wigan Evening Post, Whelan said: “The market’s not started yet, it’s still early days. I’d say it’ll be another week, maybe even a fortnight before it all gets going.

“Everybody – players, managers, agents – are still getting over the Euros, and that’ll be the case for a few days yet.

“It’s all quiet on the Western Front at the moment. Nothing to report.”

No doubt many supporters will be disappointed with this news but it could well be a cunning ploy from the Latics owner ahead of a flurry of activity. Time will tell.
