Watson ready for Mackems test

Following on from his last gasp penalty cameo against Stoke City at the weekend, Ben Watson is ready for the visit of Sunderland to the DW Stadium this evening.

The former Crystal Palace midfielder was substituted onto the pitch in the dying minutes of the game with Stoke in order to score the equalising penalty with his first touch of the game.

Watson belives that the draw earned at the Britannia Stadium illustrates the ability and desire within the Wigan Athletic ranks.

He told the Wigan Evening Post: “We said before the game that Stoke and Sunderland were massive games for us, and if we could get points out of both then it would stand us in good stead.”

“I don’t think too many teams will go to Stoke and get a result so that sends us in to the Sunderland game on a high.”

Following his goal against Stoke, Watson is in line for a first team recall after a number of weeks on the substitutes bench.
