Steve Bruce has decided to cut his losses on troublesome striker Amr Zaki.
The Egypt international made a sensational start to life in the Barclays Premier League with eight goals in his first eleven appearances for Wigan.
But the 26-year-old striker's form tailed off and after repeatedly returning late from international duty, Bruce has decided against making a permanent bid for the Zamalek frontman.
'We haven't taken up the loan agreement or the option to pursue Amr,' admitted Bruce.
'He had big personal problems in his life. You'd have to ask Zaki why he chose to go down the path he did.
'It really is sad and we've come to the conclusion that it would be best if we don't renew the option and get on with our lives.'
