Valencia close to United deal

Sky Sports News sources understand that Antonio Valencia could complete his switch from Wigan to Manchester United on Monday. United are said to be close to completing the £16million deal with the Red Devils keen to replace the huge void left by the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid. The 23-year-old is believed to be in Manchester undergoing a medical and the completion of the move is said to be imminent. The Latics are set to make a massive profit on the winger after signing him on a permanent deal from Villarreal in January 2008 for a fee believed to be around £3million after enjoying 18 months on loan at the JJB Stadium. The Ecuador international is unlikely to score as many goals as his Portuguese predecessor with just seven strikes in 89 appearances for the Latics. However, his ability is not in doubt after three successful seasons in the Premier League. Despite the big-money transfer it remains to be seen whether Valencia will handed the legendary number seven shirt at Old Trafford.
