United striker interested in Latics switch

Mame Diouf has spoken of his desire to make a loan switch to the DW Stadium for the remainder of the season.

The 24 year old striker has found first team opportunities hard to come by at Old Trafford making just three appearances so far this season, all in the Carling Cup.

Now the former Molde striker, who has also spent time on loan with Blackburn Rovers, has requested a loan swtich to the Latics.

"It is an option at the moment and a good one. I want to go and play week in, week out and try to impress Sir Alex Ferguson," the Senegal international told Sky Sports.

"If I can finish the season strongly, I can challenge for a position next season like Danny has done this season.

"Wigan could be a key for me. I have done okay for Blackburn, but need to do well on my next loan. There are other teams interested as well."

Diouf's Manchester United team mate, Federico Macheda was also being linked with a switch to the Latics before he joined Neil Warnock's Q.P.R. team.

It was Tom Cleverley who successfully made the same loan switch last season after previous spells with Watford and Leicester.
