Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp targets Wigan midfielder Lee Cattermole

Bruce, who moved this summer to Sunderland after becoming frustrated with the limits placed upon him at Wigan, saw Wilson Palacios move to White Hart Lane In January and now Martinez will have to work to hold on to Cattermole. The combative former Middlesbrough midfielder is away in Sweden on England Under-21 duty at the moment though is the subject of interest from a host of Premier League clubs including Liverpool and Sunderland. Cattermole, who adds bite and energy to Wigan's midfield, had a terrific a season for them last term and has continued that form in to the European Championships with Stuart Pearce's side. The 21-year-old was signed by Bruce last July for a fee of £3.5m and would in all likelihood command a figure of double that today. Redknapp is eager to pair up Palacios and Cattermole again to give his side a tougher centre, according to a report in the Daily Mail newspaper. Last week Wigan chairman Dave Whelan claimed Cattermole was not for sale and insisted Martinez would be given support in holding the core of his first team squad together. Meanwhile, Tottenham goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes has called on Redknapp not to sell him in the summer transfer window. "I want to stay but if they want to sell me then I'll have to go," said the Brazilian, who endured a difficult eaerly season after his transfer from PSV Eindhoven before recovering some form late on. "Tottenham is a great club in England and I think I'll do really well next season. I have three years left on my contract and I want to stay. "I think the second half of the season was so much better. But I've worked hard and obviously goalkeeping coach Tony Parkes gave me confidence. So I would like to stay."
